This is a continuation to Part 1 about my popped eardrum that you can read here. I am not a medical expert so please make sure you see a doctor!
This just got kind of serious I thought when the doctor said to go to the ER. She said she could give me antibiotics as she had a feeling I had some kind of bacterial infection in the ear, but because I was having pain behind my ear on the bone area specifically it could be worse.
Next stop: nearest ER
We headed to the ER after that and I was hooked up in a room as I was having other problems because of the lingering fevers and the use of Nyquil Severe. They gave me pain meds for that and after hearing my story and looking at my ear they gave me antibiotics and said the pain on my bone wasn’t too serious. I remember the nurse telling me that my ear looked like it was really painful. Let me tell you though, those IV antibiotics worked GREAT! I was still leaking fluids from my ear like nothing, but the pain in my face, neck and everything else was about gone!About an hour after that I was able to go home and the first thing we did was eat dinner at Matsuzaka-Tei! So good to finally eat solid foods!
Follow-up visit to my doctor
The next week I got to see my doctor and she said everything looked okay (except the leaking ear) and I should be better by the end of the antibiotics. The weekend came and most of my fever and body ache symptoms were gone by then. Until they came back as soon as they disappeared. I still had sinus issues and couldn’t sleep well too. So I went back again. She gave me a stronger antibiotic and said if I wasn’t improving in the next few days to call her. A few days later, no improvement. I called her and she said to come back.
Third visit back and she couldn’t tell what was going on other than my ear still leaking some liquids and some kind of bacterial ear infection. It was time for me to visit an Ear Nose Throat specialist that same day as it could get worse. There, I would finally get the answer to what was going on when he used the microscope to look inside my right ear. A tiny perforated hole on my eardrum.
Read more in Part 3 as I go through multiple appointments to see what happens with the hole posted here.
Man you really did have to bounce around to get answers and help. Hang in there!
Yeah, my mom kept telling me I needed to see a specialist but I can’t see one without a referral. So it had to go through the rounds first to rule out anything that could have been solved with just a regular doctor visit. Thanks! =)
