This is a continuation to part 2Â when I got sick and couldn’t figure out why. To note again: I am no a medical expert so please make sure you see a doctor!
Really? A tiny hole was giving me all these health issues and made me so sick?? Apparently so. What probably happened was my sinus infection created a lot of back up behind my ear and the pressure from blowing my nose gave it the push to pop, creating the ear infection. I probably had a bacterial infection too as he gave me steroids and told me to continue taking the stronger antibiotic.
Finally recovering from being sick!
Finally after getting the steroids everything started to get better! All the symptoms I had were gone. I went back again and was told everything looks good and to wait for the tiny hole to get better. My visit back and he checked my ear. He asked me if I ever had problems with my ear before. Occasionally I did and he checked it with the microscope. Somehow the hole got bigger. A LOT bigger!
How it got bigger I don’t know, but I had a few options now. Besides waiting one more time I either could get surgery to patch it up or a hearing aid. He saw my reluctant face and said we could wait a month and see if it tries to closes up. A month passed but no luck, it was still the same. Hearing tests proved that my loss of hearing was bad enough being below average for the right side to warrant either the surgery or hearing aid.
Two options
With hearing aids, I would have to use them forever as there was no way the hole would close on its own at this point. The risky thing was I could still possibly get more ear infections from the moisture gathering in it if I wasn’t careful. I would also still need to avoid getting water in it like showering or by swimming and flying would be hard as well. I didn’t really like the sound of constantly being cautious like that and with my age and the size of it as a factor, it just made more sense to go with the surgery to get it closed up with one go and done. But having surgery also had it’s risks and a couple ways to do it.
Read more in Part 4 as I talk to a couple doctors about the procedure and possible risks posted soon.
